We define re-entry students as those who were previously undergraduates working toward a degree and who wish to return to the University of Vermont following a voluntary leave. If you are a re-entry student, submit the online Re-entry Application.
Students wishing to apply for admission into a UVM degree program or students who have been previously admitted and never attended, should contact Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@uvm.edu for guidance on future application and enrollment options.
Note: Applications for Spring 2025 will be reviewed starting October 1, 2024. The deadline to apply for Spring 2025 is Friday, January 10, 2025. Please note there are additional deadlines for international students, students readmitted after a medical withdrawal and for students looking to readmit to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Please review additional deadlines below.
Medical Withdrawal
If you are applying for re-entry following an approved medical withdrawal, contact the Dean of Students Office at dos@uvm.edu or 802-656-3380 with any questions. Applications following a medical withdrawal must be submitted no later than 45 days before the start of the semester, per the university medical withdrawl policy (PDF).
Academic Dismissal or Compassionate Leave
If you are applying for re-entry following an academic dismissal or compassionate leave, contact the Student Services team for the UVM college in which you intend to major (i.e. Arts and Sciences, Grossman School of Business, etc.).
Suspension
If you wish to return to the University after a suspension, you will need to contact the Dean of Students Office at dos@uvm.edu or 802-656-3380 to schedule a meeting.
Course Registration
Check the course listings and registration dates at the Office of the Registrar. Course registration occurs online using the UVM portal. For additional information, please review the Add/Drop Process.
For assistance with your NetID, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 802-656-2045. For password assistance, please review the information on the identity and account management website, or call 802-656-2006. For assistance with course selection, please contact the Student Services team within your School/College.
Student Financial Services and On-Campus Housing Requests
If you are approved for re-entry, the decision affects only your ability to register for classes. This decision does not imply restoration of eligibility of financial aid (including student loans). Please consult Student Financial Services (802-656-5700) before making any plans to return to the University of Vermont.
If you are hoping to live on-campus, you should complete a Housing Request. You may also contact Residential Life at 802-656-3434 or reslife@uvm.edu.
International Students
International students who require an F-1 or J-1 non-immigrant student visa will need to work with the Office of International Education on these documents by initiating a document request through iStart. The deadline for requesting re-entry immigration documents is July 1 for students wishing to return in August and December 1 for those returning in January. Questions can be directed to internationalstudents@uvm.edu.
Residency Information
Students who were previously classified as in-state residents for tuition purposes, and who re-enroll after an absence of more than one year may be required to submit an Application for In-State Status with appropriate documentation to support claims of continuing eligibility for Vermont residency for tuition purposes.

College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Thank you for your interest in continuing your education with the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. The College reviews re-entry applications on a rolling basis throughout the year for most majors. Upon receipt of your application, you will be contacted via email with information regarding next steps and additional details about the re-entry process.
Students applying for re-entry to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, who left on academic probation will be readmitted on that same trial status.

College of Arts and Sciences
Thank you for your interest in continuing your education with the College of Arts and Sciences. The College reviews re-entry applications on a rolling basis throughout the year. Upon receipt of your application, you will be contacted via email with information regarding next steps and additional details about the re-entry process.
In order to be accepted for internal transfer into the College of Arts and Sciences, students must have completed at least 12 credits as an undergraduate student at UVM and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.00. No student will be accepted into the college with a cumulative grade point average that is below 2.00.
Students with a cumulative GPA at or above a 2.00, but with a most recent semester GPA below 2.00, will be accepted on academic probation, and required to meet with an academic advisor prior to transfer. All upper-class students (Juniors and Seniors) will be required to meet with an academic advisor to discuss their degree requirements prior to being accepted for internal transfer.
Students applying for re-entry to the College of Arts and Sciences, who left on academic probation will be readmitted on that same trial status.

College of Education and Social Services

Students transferring into a CESS program must:

The College reviews re-entry applications in accordance with the University Catalogue’s published timeline. Upon receipt of your application, you will be contacted via email with information regarding next steps and additional details about the re-entry process.
If you are applying to CEMS and you left the University because of a dismissal or a forced leave, you should plan to complete the CEMS Readmission Application.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Thank you for your interest in continuing your education with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Note permission to return does not guarantee placement in your original cohort.
Although re-entry applications are accepted up until the day before classes begin, it is recommended that you submit your application as soon as possible, so we can properly plan for your return. If you are looking to return to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences in a clinical major (Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Radiation Sciences, Nursing), then the deadline to submit your re-entry application for the fall semester is May 15 and for the spring semester is November 1. Applications for these majors are not considered for summer re-entry. Refer to the CNHS Student Handbook for the complete re-entry policy.
Students who were formally dismissed from the program or who voluntarily withdrew from a program must apply to the department as an internal transfer student. More information for transfer students can be found at CNHS prospective students .
