myUVM Guidance – Add/Drop/Withdraw for Students

For Students

The process to add/drop/withdraw from courses is completed through the My Courses card in your myUVM portal.

Students should follow the registration schedule to view when registration opens for their registration group. You can also see specific times and check for registration holds from the My Courses card.

Manage My Courses and Check Registration Status are featured links within myUVM.

Students should follow the academic calendar to learn the timeline to add/drop/withdraw from classes.  Classes for the fall and spring semesters can be added through the first five instructional days of either term.  All courses require instructor permission to enroll after the FIFTH instructional day of the term.  Courses can be dropped throughout the entire Add/Drop period and do not require instructor permission.  Note that session dates vary for summer courses. Students who wish to add/drop/withdraw from a summer course should review the summer add, drop, and withdrawl dates.

If you would like to enroll in a course during the second week of the Add/Drop period (see the academic calendar for specific dates), you will need to contact the instructor and request permission to register. If the instructor agrees, an electronic override will be submitted for you. You will then be able to register for the course.

You will need to register using the "Add or Drop Classes" link and the course's CRN.  Courses will still appear "closed" even after permission has been granted if you attempt to use the "Look-Up Classes" link. You must enter the CRN directly into the add/drop form.

The add/drop/withdraw screen in myUVM highlighting the box where to place a CRN.

After the FIFTH instructional day of the term, you cannot register using Look-Up Classes to Add. Courses will appear to be closed.

A closed course will show NR in the first column.

For Faculty

All courses will be restricted against enrollment without instructor permission after the FIFTH instructional day of the term.

Students interested in adding your course(s) during the second week of Add/Drop must receive an electronic override from you before they will be able to register.

Per the Faculty Senate, this policy will apply to all courses.  You may not request that your course(s) be excluded.

Unless a course specifically requires instructor permission in order to register, students should not encounter permission errors when adding courses during the first five instructional days or when dropping courses throughout the entire Add/Drop period.
