First-Year Admission Decisions

Early Decision (ED) Admit
Body

Students admitted as Early Decision are expected to withdraw any other applications and pay their UVM acceptance fee by the date specified in their admissions letter.

Early Action (EA) Admit
Body

Students admitted through Early Action receive a non-binding admit decision. Students have until May 1 to make their college choice.

Regular Decision (RD) Admit
Body

Students admitted through Regular Decision receive a non-binding admit decision. Students have until May 1 to make their college choice.

Deferred Decision
Body

Students who apply ED or EA may have their admissions decision deferred. This means that a student’s application will be reviewed during the Regular Decision window. Students who are deferred should send updated grades, a statement of interest or anything else to support their application.

Wait List Decision
Body

Students who apply ED, EA or RD may receive a wait list decision. Wait list offers are given to students we may be able to consider admitting for the fall or spring, if space becomes available after the May 1 acceptance fee deadline.

Wait listed students in select majors may also choose a one-semester program with Verto Education. This globally focused program allows wait listed students (in select majors) to take a semester of fully transferable coursework and earn a $3,000 scholarship (for time at Verto). With a 3.0 cumulative GPA in Verto, students will be automatically guaranteed admission to UVM the following spring as a transfer student.

Winter Cat
Body

Students who apply ED, EA, or RD may receive a Winter Cat decision. Winter Cat students are invited to start at UVM in January.

Winter Cat students have many choices for how to spend their fall semester. Options include: taking courses at another accredited college or university; participating in experiential education abroad with Verto Education (while earning UVM credit and a $3,000 scholarship to Verto); working; or travel.

Catamount Advance
Body

Select students who apply ED, EA or RD may be invited into the Catamount Advance program. This non-aid or merit scholarship program will allow students to spend their first year studying as non-degree students. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be offered admission as a Sophomore in Fall 2025.

Transferring to UVM

UVM welcomes applications from transfer students for both the fall and spring semesters. Most successful applicants will have a cumulative 3.0 GPA. UVM also has defined transfer pathways with the Community College of Vermont (CCV) that allow for a smooth transfer process into many of UVM's programs.
