This volume is a reprint of the 26 short papers that were presented at the Quebec-Vermont Appalachian Workshop held at the University of Vermont in April, 1989. The volume is organized into five sections. The first two sections focus on the rift history and depositional setting of the northern Appalachian orogen prior to the Taconic Orogeny. The third and fourth sections address the style and sequence of deformation associated with the formation of the orogen. The fifth section presents results and discusses problems encountered using geochemical and geochronological techniques to study the orogen.
