Curriculum Subcommittees
Students participating on the Vermont Integrated Curriculum (VIC) Subcommittees play a vital role in shaping the College's curriculum at every level. Their input is a valuable asset in planning for the educational needs of future medical students at Larner.
Foundations/Preclinical Level Subcommittee
This committee is responsible for oversight of the pre-clinical portion of the curriculum, spanning the first and second years. The committee is chaired by Dr. Karen Lounsbury (Level Director Foundations Curriculum), and is comprised of course directors, Dr. Christa Zehle (Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education), the COMET manager, a Coordinator from the Dana Medical Library, and one student representative.
The election is held in the spring and is open all members of the third-year class. Two months prior to end of the academic year, SEC calls for paragraphs of intent. A vote is held internally, and selection must be approved by the Office of Medical Education (OME).

Clerkship Level Subcommittee
This committee is charged with oversight of clinical aspect of the curriculum, which begins in the second year. The body performs an ongoing review of clerkship rotations at all affiliated hospitals, including evaluation of overall student exam performance and other student proficiency outcomes. The committee is comprised of each Clerkship Director, Dr. Tania Bertsch (Associate Dean for Clinical Education), Dr. Elise Everett (Level Director Clinical Curriculum), Dr. Christa Zehle Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education), and one student representative.

Advanced Integration Level Subcommittee
This committee provides oversight of the Advanced Integration level curriculum based on best practices, the medical education literature, and in compliance with the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME) standards. This includes, however is not limited to, review of programmatic and level objectives, level courses and requirements, grading and evaluation of courses, and relevant level policies.
The election is held in the spring and is open to all members of the rising fourth year class. Two months prior to the end of the academic year, SEC calls for paragraphs of intent. A vote is held internally and selection must be approved by the OME.

Evaluation Subcommittee
This committee Provide formal, independent review of the required courses and clerkship rotations in the Vermont Integration Curriculum (VIC) using best practices shared by the LCME. They review linkages between learning objectives and medical education program objectives as well as help facilitate review of horizontal and vertical integration of the curriculum. They generate summary evaluation report with recommendations for each course/clerkship and present reports/findings to the MCC for approval.

Medical Curriculum Committee
The Medical Curriculum Committee (MCC) is the institutional body that oversees the medical education program. The Committee is responsible for the overall design, management, integration, evaluation and enhancement of a coherent and coordinated medical curriculum.

The Larner College of Medicine Advancement Committee is responsible for monitoring the progress of medical students struggling academically and assessing their ability to continue in the curriculum. The committee’s processes are outlined extensively in the student handbook. The committee is comprised of faculty members and one student representative from each class. Student representatives serve as full voting members, but do not vote in cases related to members of their class year.

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Organization of Student Representatives (OSRs)

The Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) is the student wing of the AAMC, with each medical school sending delegates to biannual AAMC conferences. UVM OSR representatives serve as a link between LCOM and the organization, presenting those areas where LCOM can serve as a model for other medical schools, and bringing back relevant innovations from other institutions.
