Jean's teaching focuses on generalist social work practice and practicum education. She is especially committed to applying the principles of her professional practice to the classroom - building trust, facilitating relationships and allowing for all voices, especially those whose have been traditionally silenced, to be heard.
She previously served as Director of HIV+ Services at the statewide Vermont AIDS- Service Organization, Vermont CARES. Her 15 years of practice experience span a variety of community organizations, including the Committee on Temporary Shelter, Burlington Housing Authority, and the Pride Center of Vermont.
Prior to joining UVM as a full-time faculty member in 2019, Jean had more than ten years of part-time teaching experience in the Department of Social Work.
In 2020, she became the Practicum Education Coordinator for the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) programs in th Department of Social Work. She currently serves as the co- chair of New England Consortium of Field Directors (NECON)
As a second-year doctoral student in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies EdD Program, Jean is focusing on practicum education in social work. She is a graduate of the MSW program at UVM.
Jean is a prior recipient of UVM's Graduate Student Senate Excellence in Teaching Award and the Social Work Department's Field Instructor of the Year Award. She was also a prior nominee for the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award at the University of Vermont.
