Program Overview

Over the last decade, the demand for early childhood special educators and early interventionists more than doubled. This need is projected to continue into the foreseeable future.

Our nationally-accredited graduate program meets the needs of both new and in-place early childhood professionals seeking an advanced degree. We offer licensure (birth to age 6) and non-licensure pathways leading to a Master's of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education.

Our faculty work closely with you to design an individualized program plan aligned with professional interests and career goals.

All courses are delivered online to accommodate working professionals.

Current UVM students pursue our Accelerated Master's Degree Pathway beginning in their junior or senior year, saving time and money on the way to an advanced degree and higher earning potential.

Licensure or Endorsement Tracks

Successful candidates complete their program with a Master's Degree (M.Ed.) in Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-Age 6), leading to professional teaching licensure or added endorsement.

If you are interested in our K through age 21 licensure track, please visit our Special Education (M.Ed.) webpage.

Non-Licensure Option

If you are not seeking an initial license or added endorsement, you can pursue an individually-designed program suited to your career goals or personal interests.
