Our nationally accredited program meets the needs of experienced and aspiring professionals through licensure and non-licensure pathways leading to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education.

Program Overview

All coursework is delivered online for your convenience. We work closely with you to design an individualized program plan aligned with your professional interests and career goals. The program features a rigorous curriculum and community-based internships supported by our nationally recognized faculty and experienced professionals where you work. 

Our program is nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Reciprocity agreements allow you to gain licensure in states across the country.

Licensure and Endorsement Tracks

Successful candidates complete their program with a Master's Degree (M.Ed.) in Special Education in one ot two tracks:

Non-Licensure Option

If you are not seeking an initial license or added endorsement, you can pursue an individually-designed program suited to your career goals or personal interests. This option is meant for either licensed educators seeking to extend their skills and knowledge, or other professionals planning to work with people with disabilities (such as recreation, community living, etc.).

Begin Online Coursework Any Semester

Start taking coursework any semester (summer, fall, or spring) and apply for admission into the master's program. Non-degree students can transfer credits into the master's program (Jump start degree).

Learn to support the success of all students through inclusive education leveraging collaborative, family-centered practice and a supports model approach to understanding disability. We focus on evidence-based practice, data-based decision making, and a strengths-based climate for students, families, and school staff to feel welcomed, respected, and supported. 

We welcome students to get involved with research projects led by our internationally recognized faculty who publish their work in a variety of leading journals.

Cultural, Linguistic and Economic Diversity

Our goal is to prepare teachers who are committed to equity, inclusion, and social justice. Field experiences are designed to increase cultural competence working with families and children who are experiencing disability, English language learners, refugees, and/or living with poverty. 

National Accreditation and Licensure Reciprocity

Our program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Licensure reciprocity agreements extend across country with other states.

Application Criteria:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree.
  • Preference is given to candidates with two years of teaching and/or related experience working with people with disabilities.

International Students: This program is delivered online, therefore it does not meet the in-person requirements for an international student visa.
