Friday, March 30, 2018 | Room 303, Bailey/Howe Library |
9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Diversity Awareness Building to Create Inclusive Learning Environments In this workshop, participants will explore their role as a mentor in classroom and/or laboratory environments through the lens of social identity. Through interactive exercises, participants gain awareness and understanding of the many types of student diversity. We will reflect on these discoveries while learning strategies to foster diverse identities of students and their mentors. This workshop is based on the work of The National Mentoring Research Network (NMRN), a nationwide coalition. This network provides researchers with evidence-based mentorship and professional development programming. The NMRN programs emphasize the benefits and challenges of diversity, inclusivity and culture within mentoring relationships and the research workforce. This workshop is open to graduate students, teaching postdocs, faculty and researchers from the University community. Facilitator: Dr. Veronica Sosa-Gonzalez Register: Please register though the following link: https://www.uvm.edu/ctl/apps/ctlcal/?c=events&m=elink&id=1435 |
