These pines are drought-resistant bushy trees found at mid-elevation in the desert southwest. They are members of the pinyon-juniper forest community with at least 4 species and multiple hybrids. Cones are about 2" long and ovate with a few thick, unarmed scales. They are noted and prized for their edible seeds. Needles are about 1" long.
