These pines are drought-resistant bushy trees found at mid-elevation in the desert southwest. Cones are about 2" long and ovate with a few thick, unarmed scales. They are noted and prized for their edible seeds. Needles are about 1" long with generally 1 needle per fascicle (unusual for Pinus).
