A small to medium-sized tree found in the dry foothills of the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas with edible (prized) seeds. Leaves are 3 per fascicle, about 9" long and flexible. Cones are heavy, subglobose, and about 10" with an umbo armed with a stout claw.
