A large tree native to Europe and Asia Minor with stout branches and silvery buds that is salt-resistant and used as an ornamental. Needles are 2 per fascicle, about 5" long, dark green, stout, rigid, and sharply pointed. Cones are about 3" long, and ovoid, with an umbro armed with an inconspicuous spine.
