A small to medium-sized tree with a range similar to that of P. glauca. It is restricted to bogs in the southern portion of its range and found on well-drained sites further north. Needles are about 1/3" long, dull blue-green, blunt (not pricky), and more or less glaucous. Twigs are brownish and pubescent. Cones are about 1" long, ovoid, and persistent with scales rounded and erose.
