Includes about 70 species, primarily restricted to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, but extending into tropical forests of Java and Cuba. 16 species are native to North America. Leaves are deciduous, opposite, pinnately-compound (except for F. anomala, Singleleaf Ash). Fruit is a 1-seeded samara with a terminal wing.
