  • R. typhina (fruit)

An intolerant shrub or small tree with pinnately compound, coarsely serrate, deciduous leaves that is found in open sites throughout the northeast. The stout, pubescent branches have buds which are conical and covered with dense, rusty hairs. Milky sap exudes from the cut stems. The bark is brown with conspicuous lenticels. The fruit is an upright red cone-shaped panicle of drupes.
