Contains about 70 genera and 850 species of trees and shrubs found primarily in tropical and subtropical regions of the world, with a small number of species in temperate regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. Some species have resinous secretions which cause skin irritation (including Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, Poison Sumac, and the Florida Poison Tree). Other species have commercially valuable fruit (Cashew Tree).
