ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
We Stand with the People of Occupied Palestine
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Vermont is a group of students, faculty, staff and community members organized on democratic principles to promote justice, human rights, national liberation and self-determination for the Palestinian people. One of our primary goals is to raise awareness on campus and in the community about the Palestinian plight under military occupation and, more generally, about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Additionally, SJP has endorsed and is actively supporting the international boycott, divestment and sanctions movement (BDS) against Israel that is currently taking place around the world under the leadership of Palestinian civil society. In solidarity with this nonviolent movement, we are calling on the University of Vermont to divest from American corporations that are complicit in and profit from Israel's illegal occupation and colonization of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. (To learn more about our divestment proposal and activism, go to 'EVENTS' and 'LINKS' on this website.)
Our commitment to BDS and to a just peace for all in Israel-Palestine means we also support the "right of return" of Palestinian refugees in conformance with international law and the civil rights' struggle for full equality by Israel's Palestinian citizens.
Students for Justice in Palestine was recognized as a UVM organization by the Senate of the Student Government Association on 3rd May 2011.
