Where do you like to walk at night? For many decades one of the finest promenades in America has been the coast of New Jersey, where boardwalks stretch out along miles of Atlantic beach, linking town after town after town. I worked there for the Historical American Buildings Survey one summer a few years ago, and remember meeting people who would catch the train out of Manhattan after work, take a dip in the ocean, have dinner and then walk several stations down the shore line before hopping a late train back to New York.
