Prospective, first-time, first-year undergraduate students are automatically considered for the Presidential Scholarship, and the Trustees Scholarship based on their application for admission.
Notification Timeline: Most scholarship notifications are included with the offer of admission. For scholarships requiring an application, students must apply by the application deadline and will be notified as listed in the scholarship information.

The following scholarships do not require a separate application from prospective, first-time, first-year undergraduate students who are out-of-state residents or international.
Presidential Scholarship
- Presidential Scholarships are awarded to admitted out-of-state first year students who demonstrate the highest academic performance. Recipients are selected based on the application for admission.
- Presidential Scholars are awarded a four-year (eight semester) merit scholarship, which ranges from $18,000 to $25,000 annually. No separate application is required.
- You must be enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Renewal eligibility is evaluated at the end of each spring term.
Trustees Scholarship
- Trustees Scholarships are awarded to admitted out-of-state first-year students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance. Recipients are selected based on the application for admission.
- Trustee Scholars are awarded a four-year (eight semester) merit scholarship, which ranges from $10,000 to $14,000 annually. No separate application is required.
- You must be enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Renewal eligibility is evaluated at the end of each spring term.
Simon Family Scholarship (Separate Application Required)
Application for the Simon Family Scholarship
- Application deadline for 2025-26: February 1, 2025
- Out-of-State prospective, U.S. citizen or permanent resident, first-time undergraduate students admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences
- Simon Family Scholarship requires demonstration of academic excellence, leadership, community service, and high financial need.
- Consideration for this scholarship requires submission of the FAFSA by February 1, 2025 to ensure UVM has received your FAFSA for review by the scholarship application deadline.
- The Simon Family Scholarship is $20,000 per year, renewable with maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and active participation as a student leader and in service is expected.

UVM First Nations' Scholarship (Separate Application Required)
The First Nations' Scholarship is a donor established scholarship fund supporting new or current UVM students who demonstrate interest in impacting communities of Indigenous peoples. This interest could be focused on pursuing work as a future educator, social service leaders, health practitioner, or any type of work that centers the well-being of indigenous students, families, and communities.
- Applicants must have financial need, demonstrated on the FAFSA, and demonstrate an interest in issues impacting communities of indigenous peoples.
- Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in UVM’s College of Education and Social Services and to students who identify as Indigenous/Alaskan Indigenous.
- Students may reapply for the scholarship for future years; there is no automatic renewal.
- The amount of this scholarship varies per recipient and per year, based on financial need and the availability of funding.
