Courtney is a Senior Lecturer in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Her colleagues lovingly refer to her as 'Head Nerd for Teaching'. She is a first generation college student and has been affiliated with the college since beginning her graduate studies here in 2007. Her graduate and postdoctoral research focused on environmental phosphorus cycling in aquatic systems and strategies for improving phosphorus use efficiency in agricultural systems. Courtney's love for teaching and learning started as a postdoc, while leading an undergraduate internship program and later as the engineering labs manager in CEMS. Her current interests center on curriculum design, the first year experience, inclusive teaching in STEM, and the scholarship of teaching and learning as a means to advancing educational excellence. She is the UVM campus representative to the American Society for Engineering Education and previously received the CEMS Professional Service Award, Civic Learning Faculty of the Year Award, and Higher Education Resources (HERS) Leadership Institute Award.
