On April 20, 2007, The University of Vermont College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) celebrated the achievements of dozens of outstanding students at the annual Honor's Day celebration. Held in the magnificent Ira Allen Chapel, this ceremony honors students in all departments and programs, including Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, Civil, Environmental, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management. The keynote speaker this year was Dr. Catherine Koshland. Dr. Koshland is the Wood-Calvert Professor in Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and in 2004 she became the Vice-Provost for Academic Planning and Facilities. Dr. Koshland also serves on the CEMS Board of Advisors. Two new awards were presented this year. The Hundal Family Scholarship was established in 2006 by Dr. Mahendra S. Hundal, Professor Emeritus, who was a member of the CEMS Mechanical Engineering program from 1967 until 2001. CEMS is honored that Dr. Hundal has chosen to recognize the academic achievement of an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The Sean O'Flaherty Fahey Commemorative Award was established by CSA Engineering, Inc., in honor of Sean O'Flaherty Fahey, a CEMS graduate who died in a surfing accident in January, 2006. This award recognizes a junior Mechanical Engineering student who reflects the engineering achievements and spirit of Sean. To view the 2007 Honor's Day program in its entirety, click here.
