Md Ohiul Islam is an applied microeconomist whose research focuses on labor economics, economic development, and other microeconomic issues. Currently, Islam's research seeks to understand the factors behind demographic gaps in education and labor market outcomes, the impact of labor market policies on labor market entry and exit, issues around high-skilled and low-skilled migration between the global South and North, and the environmental drivers of educational and health outcomes, such as climate change, in developing countries. Islam is experienced in teaching a wide range of courses on microeconomics, macroeconomics, and statistical methods. What motivates Islam to teach economics is primarily getting students to understand the economist's way of thinking and introducing them to the vast world of economic research.
