We are so excited that you chose UVM to be your university home!

In order to prepare you for your spring semester, there’s a few things we need you to do before YOUR first day of classes!

ACTIVATE YOUR NetID

Your UVM NetID is a single username with a corresponding password that grants access to the myUVM Portal, UVM’s wireless network, the UVM email and calendar system, Admissions Application Portal, Brightspace, and other UVM systems and services. Your NetID consists of up to eight letters/numbers based on your last name and initials.

  • For instance, the NetID “jshmoe” would belong to Joe Shmoe.

What is my UVM email account?

  • Your UVM email address is associated with your NetID, such as jshmoe@uvm.edu. Additionally, each email account has an email alias based on your first and last name, like Joe.Shmoe@uvm.edu. Email sent to either address is delivered to your UVM email account.

Download the Microsoft Outlook Mobile Application for convenient access to your UVM email on the go, click here for instructions on adding your UVM email account to your device.

BUYING A COMPUTER / SPECIFICATIONS

UVM’s not-for-profit UVM TechStore carries computers from Apple and Dell, and a full line of supplies and accessories — from ink to iPads — all at competitive educational pricing. Computers purchased through the UVM TechStore meet University minimum specifications and can be serviced by the on-campus TechTeam.

The UVM TechStore is located on the third floor of the Davis Center in the UVM Bookstore and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Stop by, call (802) 656-3067, or email tech.store@uvm.edu.

Access to a computer is critical for your success, both in and out of class. All UVM students are required to have a laptop that meets the minimum specifications outlined here. Please note that Chromebooks, iPads and Android Tablets are not capable of being used as your primary computing device. The UVM TechStore sells laptops that meet both college-specific and general University minimum specifications.

To discuss possible options for utilizing financial aid for purchase of a laptop, please contact Student Financial Services.
