BIO

PramoDITA Sharma is UVMs Distinguished Professor and Schlesinger-Grossman Chair of Family Business at the Grossman School of Business. She is a Research Fellow at the Thomas Schmidheiny Center for Family Enterprise at the Indian School of Business. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in Canada and has received honorary doctorates from the Jönköping University in Sweden, and the University of Witten/Herdecke in Germany. 

Among the highest cited scholars in family business studies, her research on succession, governance, innovation, next generation commitment, entrepreneurial leadership and sustainability in/by family enterprises has appeared in journals like the Academy of Management Learning & EducationEntrepreneurship Theory and PracticeFamily Business ReviewJournal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Venturing, among others. She has co-authored eleven books including the SAGE Handbook of Family BusinessEntrepreneurs in Every Generation & Patient Capital: The Role of Family Firms in Sustainable Business and Pioneering Business Families of Sustainable Development.

Dita served as the editor of Family Business Review  from 2008-2017. And, co-founded the Family Enterprise Research Conference (FERC), and the Schlesinger Global Family Enterprise Case Competition (SG-FECC). A recipient of the prestigious Barbara Hollander award of the Family Firm Institute (FFI), she is a frequent speaker at gatherings of family business leaders around the world. This interaction enables her to share insights from evidence-based research with practitioners while ensuring that her research remains focused on issues of significant importance to the family business community. Experiences and close interactions with her own family's enterprises help keep her professional work grounded in the realties and complex dynamics of these fascinating enterprises that dominate the economic and societal landscape around the world.
