Section Description

We are part of the business world every day. Whether you are buying a cup of coffee, watching the news, downloading music, or sleeping on a great mattress, transactions have to happen to make that all possible. As a result, products are made, goods are sold, profits rise and fall, and people are employed. In this course, we will explore the world of business, both big and small. We will look at how the world changes business and how business changes the world. Understanding the micro and macro elements are both important, no more so than understanding how businesses are created, managed, and led. This course introduces students to a variety of business concepts through reading, videos, and online discussions. Students will be encouraged to use course material to be self-aware and mindful about how businesses are formed, led, and managed. Students will be encouraged to be better consumers, business owners, and employees.

Section Expectation

This course is 100% asynchronous, which means that there is no meeting time. Course work is to be completed and submitted by the due dates.

Evaluation

There are assignments including discussion board posts and knowledge check open-book quizes. The capstone of learning occurs through students applying course material from all the units to create a board game that explains business to a target market. By creating a saleable product for a specific target audience, students will learn how to craft an idea, bring it to fruition, develop a plan, pitch their product, and make a prototype. This project is designed to foster critical thinking, writing, design, and presentation skills.
