Summary by Patti

Well, having never been to any CP event before, I wasn't sure quite what to expect - official enrollment, an agenda, a plan of action, specific programming. And I didn't have any real preferences as far as that was concerned. Thank heaven, because it was a pretty loose weekend! But that was just fine by me. I needed that!

I had three main objectives in attending:

1. Meet the people I'd "met" by email and phone for so long
2. Hang out with dogs
3. Learn more about Cairns

I did all three!

1. It was so nice to meet EVERYONE, but especially the folks I volunteer with as a MatchMaker Assistant - other MatchMakers, adoptive homes I've worked with, foster homes I've worked with, other volunteers elsewhere in CP. It was nice putting the *people* back into this very dog-centered group.

2. I *loved* being with all those Cairns (and Cairn-wannabees!). I think that was probably where I spent most of my time - in the giant dog run, sitting on a chair under the shade tree, talking with anyone who was there, and watching the doggies. And talking about the doggies. All about the doggies. Watching them all interact and play and wrestle just gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies. I could make a living watching dogs play. <sigh> It just warms my heart.

3. I was pleased to learn more about grooming my Cairn. That was really helpful and I loved it. KPee and Pat McKinney taught a bunch of us how to strip and groom Cairns using bare hands, stripping knives, and the Mars tool. I also was pleased to see some dogs take (and pass!) the Canine Good Citizen test. Carol Loeb adjudicated that, and it was interesting to watch. I was especially proud of my "roommate" Fred (the Cairn wannabee!) and also of McDuffy - whom I helped place in his forever home as a MatchMaker Assistant. Just think - a couple months ago, that sweet boy was in a puppymill. Now he's McDuffy CGC. Makes my heart sing. Good dogs!

So that was my CRAPpy weekend. :)

My dogs are not my children. At least that's what their piano teacher says.
