Learning Accessibility


There are lots of different kinds of learning disabilities as well as attention deficit disorders. In this section of the class, we will explore how accessibility factors into these types of disabilities and what we can do to make our pages more accessible in this manner.

Some general things to keep in mind when creating an accessible site with these disabilities in mind are:
  1. Give options to the material - if there are visuals, make written back ups or provide interactive activities that people can participate in even if just by clicking and viewing something new - a new website, a new graphic or list of information given with a different perspective

  2. Organize the material in a way that people can easily relate to it and find things within it. You can do this by grouping things chronologically, putting them into relevant categories, etc.

  3. Avoid clutter, unnecessary moving images, changes in color or pattern, long passages of text, etc.

  4. Allow your site to be easily accessible with screen reader technology

  5. Label tables, images and links in an informative and clear fashion

  6. Make your text as clear and easy to read both contextually and aesthetically
