Plant Identification
A small, high-elevation tree found in the Rockies west to the Sierra Nevadas in CA. Bark is whitish and smooth when young, becoming nearly black and scaly as it ages. Needles are 5 per fascicle, about 2-1/2" long, stout, rigid, and clustered near branch ends. Cones are about 5" long and cylindrical with scales thick and slightly reflexed.
