A small, high-elevation tree in the northern Rockies. Inland Empire, and West Coast mountains (BC, WA, OR, CA). Bark is thin and whitish gray with scaly plates. Needles are similar to P. flexus but often a little shorter. Cones are about 2-1/2" long, ovoid, with thick scales and a terminally armed umbo.
