  • L. laricina (needles and cones)

A small to medium-sized tree found in the extreme northeastern U.S. and almost transcontinental across Canada. It is restricted to cool swamps and bogs in the south, but found on better-drained uplands in the north. Needles are about 1" long and 3 angled. Cones are about 5/8" and ovoid with bracts shorter than scales. Young twigs are light brownish and bark is scaly.
