Leaves are simple, deciduous, and fan-shaped with or without 1 or more sinuses and produced on short spur shoots. Veins are approximately parallel . The species is dioecious with fruit about 1" in diameter, yellow to orange with a thick, fleshy outer layer and a strong, unpleasant odor. Fruit matures in autumn.
