    A medium-sized tree characteristic of wet sites along the Atlantic coast (ME to SC), and the Gulf coast (FL to MS). It is a moderately tolerant tree with very durable wood. Leaves are persistent, scalelike, decussate, glandular, and dark blue-green with paler undersides. Cones are 1/4", globose, and somewhat fleshy with peltate scales terminating in a reflexed boss.
