A native of Asia and the hardiest of all elms. It is an ornamental but messy because of the brittle twigs and is resistant to Dutch Elm Disease. Leaves are similar to U. alata but singly serrate. Twigs are similar to U. americana but slender and brittle with conspicuous globose flower buds. Fruit is similar to U. americana.
