Catalpa contains about 11 species distributed through eastern Asia, eastern North America, and the West Indies. 2 species are native to North America - C. bignonioides (Southern Catalpa), a small tree native to the gulf coastal states (although widely planted and naturalized), and C. speciosa (Northern Catalpa).
