    A shrub to small tree (to 50') native to southern Florida which is tolerant of salt spray. Leaves are simple, alternate, persistent (evergreen), orbicular with a cordate base, thick and leathery with a short petiole. Flowers are terminal, elongated clusters of 1-6 small flowers (a rat tail). Fruits are clusters of greenish-white to purple drupes.
