  • C. equisetifolia (Form)

A medium to large, nitrogen fixing tree native to Australia, but planted and naturalized in Florida and California. It is common on sandy soils near oceans with very hard, strong wood (Australian aboriginies used wood for war clubs). Leaves are evergreen. Twigs are slender, wiry, green, jointed and grooved with rings of needle-like leaves appearing at the joints. These small branchlets are shed like pine needles. Fruits are small, leathery-to-woody, cone-like samaras.
