A medium-sized tree with a range similar to that of C.tomentosa. Leaves are 5-7 (generally 5) with a glabrous rachis. Twigs are red-brown; glabrous; terminal small (1/4"-1/2"), with red-brown glabrous scales. Bark is gray with interlacing ridges. Fruit is pear-shaped, tardily dehiscent halfway to base, with an unribbed nut.
