    A common ornamental introduced from Europe. Branch-ends are upturned in mature trees. Leaves consitst of 5-7 obvate, doubly serrate leaflets. Twigs are stout with large leaf scars and large imbricate, dark resinous, sticky buds. Flowers are white tinged with red and arranged in long panicels. The fruit is spiny and the bark is scaly.
