A medium to large, tolerant tree in the Appalachian region. The leaves consist of 5 elliptical, serrate leaflets. Twigs are similar to A. hippocastanum, but the buds are non-resinous.The fruit is spineless and the bark has thin gray scales. Flowers are similar to A. hippocastanum, but yellowish.
