    A tree found on dry sites from WA to CA and the only oak native to the Pacific Northwest. Leaves are deciduous, having rounded lobes with moderately deep sinuses and orange-brown pubescence below. Twigs are to 1/2" long with rusty-brown tomentose. Fruit is to 1-1/4" long and enclosed at the base in a bowl-like cap with pubescent scales. Bark is similar to Q. alba.
