    A tolerant shrub with showy, generally white, terminal flower clusters that does best on acid soild. Leaves are similar to R. maximum, but are smaller and alternate or irregularly whorled, and not revolute. Twigs do not have large Rhododendron-like flower buds. Fruit is a globose, woody capsule. Bark is thin, dark brown and flaky.
