Leaves are simple, elliptical, serrated, and more or less acuminate with a winged petiole. Twigs have very long, pointed, valvate, reddish-brown or gray buds (large flower buds completely covered by 2 scales). Fruit is a cluster of blue-black drupes with flattened seeds.
