    This tree is similar to A. pensylvanicum with smaller leaves. Leaves are generally 3-lobed above the middle, coarsely singly serrate, and pubescent below. Twigs and fruit are similar to A. pensylvanicum but twigs are often pubescent and buds are not stalked. The bark is relatively smooth and brown.
