    A maple of the North-central states that hybridizes with A. saccharum. The leaves are often 3-lobed, pubescent below, and without ears on the mid-lobe. The leaf blade droops. Twigs are similar to A. saccharum but with pubescent buds. The bark is darker and more deeply furrowed than in the Sugar Maple.
