Old North End between Elmwood and North Winooski Avenues

By Sara Gredler

This project involved looking at the 1890 Hopkins Map of Burlignton, Vermont, comparing it to the 1978 Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps and the 2000 aerial photographs of Burlington, and researching those structures that still stood that had been depicted on the 1890 map. This project built on the project of previous first year classes in the University of Vermont’s Historic Preservation Program. Those projects had looked at maps of Burlington dating back to 1830.

This project was propelled by assistance received from the UVM Historic Preservation department, as well as Special Collections at the Bailey-Howe Library at UVM. Without their assistance, this project would not have been completed.

Unless otherwise noted, all photographs were taken by myself, Sara Gredler, in October and November, 2004.
