Hebrew 52 - Lesson 58

Lesson 58 introduces the use of the A"V roots in the future tense

Similar to the fact that there is a certain pattern of letters that are being added to a root to form a verb in the past tense

To present a root in a past tense form of a verb a certain pattern of letters that are being added (mainly as suffixes). Similar strategy is implemented to form roots as verbs in the future tense.

The significant add-on to root to form verbs in the future tense is a prefixes.

Alef preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun I
Tav preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun You(m/s)
Tav preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun You(f/s)
Yod preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun He
Tav preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun She
Nun preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun We
Tav preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun You (plural)
Yod preceding the verb that is followed the pronoun They

Note that plural forms You(M) and You(F) have the same prefix int eh future tense, a fact that reduce the number of things to memorize.

Same thing regarding They(M) and They(F).

To remember the letters one might want to use the abbriviation of the future tense prefix letters as a woman's name Etty T. Nety.

Writing the future form of most of the A"V verbs is a relatively easy task:
1) The appropriate prefix letter has to be applied.
2) All root letters have to be used (Vav is not dropped int he future tense).
3) In three of the eight forms a different ending : "ee" for You(f/s) and oo for the Plural form of You and They is applied. The ending for these pronouns stays in the different classes (L"H) and different structures (Piel).
