Week 11: Relations and equivalence relations; dynamic equivalence problem

This week, we’ll review some basic set theory, then introduce relations, equivalence relations, and equivalence classes. Then we’ll consider what is called the dynamic equivalence problem.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand basic set theory, including the operations of union and intersection.
  • Describe relations, and equivalence relations, and equivalence classes, and give examples of equivalence classes.
  • Understand the nature of the dynamic equivalence problem and the challenges it presents, and how it is related to sets and equivalence classes.

To achieve this module’s objectives, please watch the introductory video (above), and complete the following:

  • Relations and Equivalence Relations, and
  • Dynamic Equivalence Problem
