The Reading Pane lets you preview your message just like in older versions of Outlook, but now you can orient the pane vertically to give you a more expansive look at both the message and your list of other emails. To switch between vertical and horizontal views, select View / Reading Pane. The Right selection orients the pane vertically, the Bottom selection orients it horizontally, and the Off selection gets rid of it entirely.
