Class of '90

Have you made plans to attend our 10th Reunion yet? If not, now is the time. We will be celebrating on June 1-4, 2000. The weekend will have many exciting activities from a Boathouse celebration to a class party at Redstone and off-campus visits to local night spots. We hold the record for the largest 5th reunion attendance. Let’s do the same for the 10th. Hope to see you on campus. I recently enjoyed a wonderful week in Vermont with my husband, Peter, and son Robert. We stayed with Catherine Dimitruk and John Thatcher ’89, who were married on October 2. There were many UVM alumni in attendance, including Rachel Dimitruk, maid of honor; Ian Ormon ’88, best man; ushers John Suitor ’89 and Mark Demaree ’89; and guests Jenn Andrews Demaree ’89, Paige Betton, Meg Terry McGovern ’89, John ’85 and Dena Wager, Paul Austin ’89, David “Bud” Ridley, Scott Woodard ’94, Amy Mock, Greg Pajala ’93, and Julie Larose ’01. We are all looking forward to seeing many familiar faces in June for our 10th reunion. Josh Stolberg is living in Hollywood and writing for the children’s cartoon, “Sabrina.” He recently sold a feature movie script, called “Snapdragon,” which is scheduled to go into production. Amy Mendel sent congratulations to Scott Martin and his wife, Carrie. They welcomed the arrival of their baby girl, Eliza Grace. Trecia Pullman Hamilton wrote that she and her husband, Steve, recently welcomed their baby, Paige, into their family. Trecia has been in several musicals with the Lyric Theatre and the Stowe Theatre Guild. Scott started a successful engineering firm with other UVM alumni. Tracie Spingarn recently earned her MA in ESL-English interpretation from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She is a staff interpreter for the U.S. Congress. She is also involved in a variety of activities in the D.C. lesbian community. Craig and Rachel Hartstone DiGiammarino were married on September 6, 1998, in Waitsfield, Vt. David Connery was recently transferred with Bosch to London, England, to run the European design efforts. Katree Hodgdon Fenster and David (’89) Fenster celebrated the birth of their daughter, Riley Elizabeth, in September 1998. Katree is looking for some of her soccer teammates. She wrote, “Jen Star, Theresa Head, and Joey Fritz, where are you?” Jessica Greer was married on June 13, and Andrea Arena was her maid of honor. Andrea is now practicing medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Kim Mike and Patrick Loafman were married on August 28, 1999, on the beach at their home in Port Angeles, Wash. A shaman from the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe performed the ceremony, wearing the traditional robe and feather headdress. A November honeymoon in New Zealand was planned. Kim is a biologist with the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, working on a marbled murrelet project. Patrick is a herpetologist at Olympic National Park, surveying for amphibians. Elizabeth DiGirolamo Stark wrote that she has worked for a small firm in Hingham, Mass., as a mechanical design engineer for the past nine years. She graduated from Northeastern University with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1996. Elizabeth and her husband, John, were married in June 1994, and they bought a house in Abbington, Mass. They have a son, Jack, who was born in November 1996. Kate Durkee McConnell wrote that she and her husband, Robert, bought their first home, “a historic estate in the charming little town of Esmont, Va.” Kate is the nature center director for The Wintergreen Nature Foundation in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She also has become the membership education advisor for the UVA chapter of ADPi.

Class of '91

Karen Heller Lightman is living in Pittsburgh, Pa., and working in community economic development, while her husband, Ari, pursues an MPA degree at Carnegie Mellon University. She recently attended the wedding of Susan McIntyre and David Applegate in Grand Lake, Colo. Also in attendance were Heather Campbell Wager, Jay Wager, Meine Yamishita Sasse, Steve Sasse ’90, and Katherine Godet.

Class of '92

Ben Hayes received his JD degree this year, with honors, from the Ohio State College of Law. During law school, he studied international law at Oxford University and at the University of Amsterdam. He started in September as a corporate attorney for Kirkpatrick and Lockhart in Pittsburgh. For fun, Ben enjoyed a holiday in Ecuador with J. Todd White. Jonathan Vogel and his wife, Lisa, proudly announced the birth of their first child, a son, named Ryan Harrison Vogel, who was born August 23, 1999. They were visited in the hospital and at home by Tiffany Scheinholz (’93) Ofenloch and Jennifer Steckler. Jonathan, Lisa, and Ryan have moved from Atlanta to the Washington, D.C., area, where Jonathan serves as counsel for the Committee on the Judiciary and on the sub-committee on the Constitution in the U.S. House of Representatives. Antoine Williams wrote that he is currently an investment representative for Edward Jones and will shortly be opening an office in Shelburne, Vt. He would love to assist and support UVMers with investment, retirement planning, and other financial needs. Lori Handy Hallowell wrote that she recently gave birth to her third child, Lindsay Alexandra Hallowell, who was born on July 6, 1999. Lindsay joins sister Taylor and brother Nicholas in the family’s Essex Junction, Vt., home. Lori enjoys being a full-time mom and can’t believe how busy her kids keep her. Tom Hutchinson let us know that Dave “Woody” Giarrusso coached his high school varsity lacrosse team to the 1999 California State Championship. Thomas wrote from Milton, Mass., that he witnessed the team’s victory in their league championship, coached by Dave, “former captain and standout of CAT LAX.” Tom sent congratulations to Dave and best wishes for continued success and ended with, “CAT LAX fever is alive and well.”

Class of '93

Erik Sabato married Debbie Carlson in a beautiful ceremony on a mountain top in Keystone, Colo., on July 3, 1999. There were plenty of UVMers there to celebrate with them, including those in the wedding, Cathy Winchester ’89, Emily Bernstein ’92, Amy Dalrymple, Ken Schulklapper, and Brian Schwender. Other guests were Kyle Adams, Julie Collette Jackson, Kristan Cosentino, Debbie Dameshek, Shelly Grossman, Matt Hicks, Julie Kim, Jodi Siegartel, Rob Winchester ’86, and Mike and Amy Hecklinger. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in British Columbia, and they will make their home in Denver, Colo.

Class of '94

The new class officers have not wandered too far from the beautiful city on Lake Champlain that we all know and love. Narric Rome recently left his job at the Department of Education in Washington, D.C., and headed back to New York City to attend graduate school at Columbia University, where he is pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs. Beth McDermott lives in Boston and is an associate director of annual gifts at Boston College. She was the director of the annual fund at Milton Academy prior to starting in BC’s development office in August. She sees all too much of Denyce Wicht (your newly-elected class secretary), who works across the river in Cambridge at MIT as a post-doctoral associate in the chemistry department, after having completed a PhD at Dartmouth. Melissa Ball sent greetings from Bexley, Ohio, where she and her fiance, Patrick Nolan ’88, have been living since June. They are planning a May wedding in Vermont and hope the weather cooperates. Melissa has started her own business, called Considerate Canines, which specializes in dog walking and pet sitting services. She was recently featured in The Columbus Dispatch as an up-and-coming female entrepreneur. Melissa sent greetings to her father and former UVM Dean of Arts and Sciences Howard Ball; he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his latest book. Melissa keeps in touch with Barb Pfaeffle, who lives in Saxonburg, Pa., and is in her final year of graduate school for occupational therapy. Melissa also asked, “Ali Weissman, where are you?” Scott Decker lives in New York City. He and fellow UVMers Keith Decker ’95, Adam Hark ’93, Matt Graff ’95, Steve Drzewiczewski ’95, and Sundeep Dhaliwal get together frequently in various cities around the country. Last fall, activities included FIJI’s alumni weekend in Burlington, a golf outing in Myrtle Beach, and tailgating at the Steeplechase in Far Hills, N.J. They ended the year with a millennium cruise to the western Caribbean. Liz Troost Kloet was married last November to Sander Kloet, whom she met while working in The Netherlands. She wrote, “Mara Young and Amy Glynn were beautiful bridesmaids, and they didn’t complain once about having to buy raspberry-colored shoes.” Lisa and Sander will continue to live in Wauwatosa, Wisc., but they plan to eventually move to Chicago. Carrie Braverman Drinkwater and Jeff Drinkwater ’93 were married on Cape Cod last July. The wedding party included UVM grads Liz Patsalos, Tania Gilde, Jill Rosenblum, Bill Beer ’93, Adam Satin ’93, Rob Kilgore ’93, Peppi Nitta ’93, and Michael Braverman ’96. Other alumni in attendance were Anton Iamele, Christo Doyle, Scott Carter, Jody Scharfenberger, Justin Hughes, Lia Dileonardo Lehoulier, Pam Buehler ’93, Amy Clay ’93, Doug Hurd ’93, Jamie Lehoulier ’93, Phil Reed ’93, Jeff Rosenblum ’93, Stephanie Kimball (’93) Dainton, and Jenna Marcione ’93. Jeff works at Charles Schwab, and Carrie works at Arnold Advertising. They live in Boston’s South End with their yellow Lab puppy. After a lengthy stint at ESPN in Bristol, Conn., Christo Doyle has returned to his hometown of Washington, D.C. He most recently worked at National Geographic Television, but has accepted a new position as an associate producer at the rival network, the Discovery Channel. He will be working in their digital networks department in Bethesda, Md. Stephanie Taub lives in Boston and is in the second year of her master’s degree program at Simmons College school of social work. Lauren Fish McLellan started as director of the annual fund at Stonehill College last April; she formerly worked in the development office at Emmanuel College. In July, she was married to John McLellan, and they currently live in Boston. Beth McDermott was a member of the bridal party, and Melissa Gregory, Maura Mahoney, Amy Glynn, Castle Youngman, Holly Mason Macy, Sean Macy, Erin Gurry, and I were in attendance at the wedding. Sean and Holly Mason Macy sent greetings from Dublin, N.H., and information about fellow UVMers Alex Jaccaci and Jon Green. Alex lives in Thetford, Vt., where he is finishing construction on a house. He also leads spirituality workshops. Jon finished graduate school in New York City and is now teaching history. Jeff McNulty lives in San Francisco and sees Dave Donohue and Mark Abramowitz often. They are planning a February ski trip to Whistler in British Columbia with Paul Zedlovich and other UVMers. Jeff and Paul met Cathy Holahan, Cyndi Bohlin, Tyler Buck, and Andy O’Connell at the Jersey shore last Labor Day weekend. Apparently, the weather was not the best, but the bowling was competitive. Cyndi Bohlin works for Bronnercom Advertising Agency and has recently moved from Boston to their New York City offices. She keeps in touch with Jen MacInnes, who is living in Beacon Hill and teaching in Concord, Mass. Jodi VonMaffei is also in New York City, where she takes classes. Cyndi wrote, “Jodi is a lifetime student, who can occasionally be spotted bartending.” She also corresponds with Sharon Casey, who works for Merrill Lynch and lives in Japan. Karen Dennison ’93 and Jon Bicknell were engaged on Block Island in September and will be married on the Cape next August. Karen is a teacher in Beacon Hill, and Jon is a financial planner. Eric Hynes has been living and working in the Washington, D.C., area, where he is a naturalist with the Fairfax County Park Authority at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Va. He is currently applying for a job with the Peace Corps. Eric had a mini-reunion in New York City with Sam Weber, Phil Grant, Jeremy Watson, Jason Libby ’95, and Mason Power. Mason lives in New York City and works for Internet.com, a content web site that focuses on internet business and technology. He is disappointed to have missed last year’s ski season while he was rehabilitating his ACL. Ken Klau recently married Jessica Cooke ’97. Ken is a curriculum development associate for Advantage Schools, Inc., in Boston. Please send any information for future columns to me at the above address. Class of '95

Hi, everyone. By the time you get this issue it will be Y2K, so happy New Year! I hope everyone passed the evening in a memorable way. I hope lots of you are planning to go up to Burlington for Reunion. It’s just five months away, and the reunion committee is pulling together plans for a fantastic weekend that includes a party at the Boathouse, fun at downtown hot spots, as well as on the UVM campus, of course. So, please make reservations now to be in Burlington June 1-4, 2000. I want you all to know that, for the past six years, the 5th Reunion class has won the Milk Can Award for the most Reunion attendance. Let’s continue the tradition. See you on campus. Nicole Driscoll wrote news of her upcoming marriage to Nicholas Diaconis in May 2000. They live in Newburyport, Mass., and Nicole works for Bear Stearns in Boston. Audra Grimsley Prandini wrote about what she’s been up to since graduation. She married Joe Prandini ‘94 and co-founded and taught in a private kindergarten in Troy, N.Y. In 1997, she switched careers from kindergarten teacher to full-time mom when their son, Benjamin, was born. The Prandinis moved back to their hometown of Bennington, Vt., where Joe is the senior systems analyst at NASTECH. Last August, they baptized their second child, Sophia Caroline, who was born on June 28. Kelly Kennedy ’95 and Thomas “T.R.” Paquin ’94 are her godparents. Audra is enjoying her new job staying home to raise her family. Melissa Schwartz Martin married Jim Martin of Williamstown, Mass., on September 18, 1999, in Biddeford Pool, Maine. Loretta Casey, Caryn Daum, Stephanie Valente Kimes, Shannon Mercer, and Heather Vadenais Guibert were her bridesmaids. Bill Kimes, Samir Singh, and Jeff “JJ” McNulty were also in attendance at the post-Hurricane Floyd wedding. It was beautiful. They will be starting the new millennium at a Boston bash, coordinated by Stephanie and several other UVM grads. Patrick Eddis is in his final year of law school in Philadelphia. Lynn Llherault, Gina Vien, and Franca DiCrescenzo will be renting a house in Newport, R.I., again for a reunion with Scotty McDonald, Tom Quinn, Billy Lincoln, Jim Petterolli, and Michelle Anderson. Dan Hill graduated last spring from Northeastern University School of Law and is now an associate at Kopelman & Page, a municipal law firm in Boston. He is living in Newtonville. Adam Gross and Lee Hannauer were married last March in a ceremony in Scituate, Mass. Adam works for Lycos in Waltham, and Lee works for the Harvard Business School in Allston. They recently bought their first home in Brighton, Mass. Jake Mutrie ’96 lives in Brighton, Mass., with Todd Meigs. Josh Daglian and Kara Kurtzman are engaged to be married next summer. Josh is a doctoral candidate in physics at Lehigh University, while Kara is in her second year of law school at Dickinson School of Law. Jason Kneeland is in his final year of the MPA program at UVM. Prior to that, he had been working for Senator Jeffords in Washington, D.C. Matt Rocheleau and his wife, Michelle, were married last summer and are now living on Beacon Hill in Boston. They are both practicing attorneys.

Class of '96

Hello, everyone. I hope you all had a nice fall and are now having a great winter. After a sunny fall, we’re settling into the rain pattern in Seattle. I heard from a few of you over the summer. Karen Hammer wrote to announce her engagement to Jared Larrow ’94. They are planning a September 2000 wedding. Congratulations, Karen and Jared. Anne Clancy recently returned to the states after a Peace Corps stint in CÔte D’Ivoire, where she served as an urban environmental management volunteer. She moved back to Vermont last summer. Anne asked, “Are there any plans for a reunion for our class?” You all may be wondering. Our 5th reunion is actually coming up soon. Keep your calendars clear in early June 2001. I heard from a fellow Tupper resident from freshman year, Lisa Acardi. Lisa is working at the Guinness Import Company and is considering a move to San Diego for a promotions manager position within the same company. She’s enjoying the outdoors and traveling as much as she can. Her email address is <laccardi@hotmail.com>. Lisa also sent updates on a few other classmates: Laura Bugby, a school teacher, recently married Matt Cooper in Burlington, Vt. Eve Jakowiec is a manager at Mount Hood Ski Area in Oregon. She has taken up kayaking in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Eve has traveled all over, from Alaska to Poland. Tom Candee is living in Westport, Conn., and enjoying his great apartment on the beach. He works for a computer software company, where he is climbing the corporate ladder. Sara Dolan is a nurse in Boston. She lives with Priscilla Murphy. Scott Harsfield is almost through dental school. I received a nice long email from Adam Lacross, who married Jennifer Bradley last June. UVMers in the wedding included Adam’s former track teammates, Matthew Audibert and Bruce Flaker as well as Leslie Carpenter, Elise Texiera ’97, Leslie Smith (’97) Toner, and Jeff Bradley ’98. Bruce and Matt are both living in the San Francisco Bay area, where Bruce is a personal trainer for Bally fitness. Also in attendance were Andy Bose, Matthew Percy, Travis Regier ’95, Casey Grant ’94, and Beth Freitas ’97. Adam is a customer service supervisor in a Cellular One call center in Colchester, Vt., and Jennifer teaches special education at Chamberlain Elementary School in South Burlington. They live in the Champlain Islands in South Hero, Vt. According to Adam, Anna Norgren is currently training to compete in hammer throwing in the 2000 Olympics. She lives in Milford, Conn. Julie Coyne is living in Los Angeles with David Goryl ’95 and working as a recruiter for an educational company. She plans to return to school to pursue a degree in school psychology soon. Marie Ely has been working at ReCycle North in Burlington, Vt., as a shift supervisor. One of our graduate school graduates, Anne Judson, was recently named director of Saint Michael’s College graduate education program. Dr. Judson is an expert in technology in the classroom and has been part of the St. Mike’s graduate education program since 1989. She has served as an instructor and as a coordinator of elementary licensure, of the master’s concentration in information technology, and of contract courses delivered on-site in various school districts. Congratulations, Anne. Congratulations as well to Katie Thyng Varricchione and husband Glenn ’95, proud parents of a baby boy, Zachary Stedman Varricchione, born August 6, 1999. That’s it for now. Class of '97

Thank you all so much for sending me information on your life. This is the largest response I have had yet. Dennis Teravainen wrote that he traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, with Jake Goldberg and Dan Martell to visit Max Everett. Max is living there and working for American Express. They traveled to Uruguay as well, and it sounds like they all had a great time. Christian Guzzano reported that he and Janet Jobe Guzzano recently welcomed a baby boy, Michael Francis, into their family on July 25, 1999. Janet is a Microsoft systems engineer, and Christian is a third-year law student. Christian is also the technical editor of the Nova Law Review. You can find his article on environmental law published in the spring 1999 edition. The Guzzanos love life in Florida, but miss Vermont. Jess Sivret is in the Coast Guard, stationed in Massachusetts. Rich Whitesell is doing computer consulting in New Jersey and Long Island. Sara Whitcomb married Jim Provost. She is now living in Arizona and is about to start a master’s program in management. Kim Kerrisee works for Scudder Fund in Massachusetts. Gautam Shah is living in Boston, working as a graphic designer for Infosis Corporation. Lisa Sholley has just moved to Jackson Hole, Wyo., and has enjoyed meeting lots of fellow UVMers there. Jessica Cooke Klau was married to Ken Klau ’94 on August 7, 1999. She is currently in graduate school at Boston College for her master’s degree in social work. She and Ken live in Cambridge, Mass. Former sports information director at Franklin and Marshall Stephanie Ryan has accepted a job as a public affairs representative with the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid, N.Y. Colin Moffett wrote that he is living and working in Washington, D.C.

Class of '98

Patrick Strom sent news of what he has been up to since graduation. He worked at Ben & Jerry’s as a tour guide, then New York City beckoned. He worked a variety of jobs there, and, at one point, met briefly with Yogi Berra and Bill Bradley. In 1999, he set off for Copenhagen, Denmark, where he enrolled in the DIS international business program. After learning to speak Danish and finishing the semester, he spent a long month traveling to the Arctic Circle and former Soviet republics. Patrick is happy to have returned to Vermont. He lives in Jericho and works at NRG Systems in Hinesburg.

Class of '99

Heidi Ludewig joined the Saint Michael’s College staff as assistant director of alumni and parent relations last July. Nitu Khanna is working as a financial advisor for State Street Bank.
